We strongly recommend microchipping for your pets as a way to have them quickly returned to you if they are
lost. We have personally returned many stray dogs to their owners by simply scanning them as they came into
the clinic, calling the national registry for the owner's information and contacting their owners. This can mean the
difference between life and death for a lost animal, and is extremely easy, quick and generally non-stressful for
your pet. The chip is injected under the skin in much the same way as a vaccination, and this procedure can be
done in a regular office visit-it takes only a few minutes and no sedation or anesthetic is required.
Here at Laporte Animal Clinic, we currently use the Home-Again brand of microchip. This is one of the most
widely used brands in the country, and all humane societies, shelters, and many veterinarians have scanners
which will recognize these chips.
All pets can be microchipped, even birds (with the exception of very small species) and horses.
Please call the clinic for prices, registration information and to make an appointment for this quick and easy
procedure.

Microchips are extremely small devices about the
size of a grain of rice (you may see an actual
microchip in the middle of this medallion). It is
made of non-reactive materials and specially
designed to stay exactly where it is implanted
under the skin. It can be read by a special reader
and the unique number of that chip can be called
into a national registry. They will have your phone
number and address so that your pet can be
returned quickly to you.
